Rememberance Day

Tuesday 14th Nov 2023

During the month of November, here at the Clifton Centre as across the country, we have been honouring and respecting all of the people that have been involved in war and conflict.
During form periods, we have been reflecting and thinking about the past generations of people like grandparents and great-grandparents and the sacrifices they have made for us and we also looked at the remarkable lives of soldiers from Salford who have died in combat. As a mark of respect, students wrote a message to the fallen, which formed part of a commemorative display.
To continue our remembrance, some students visited the Manchester Cenotaph to pay their respects. Here they could see first hand, the poppy wreaths and heartfelt messages from the public to honour the dead. This was a very moving occasion, students were exemplary in their conduct and represented the Clifton Centre beautifully.

Our remembrance can be summed up by the words of a year 11 student:

Wars living dead the day you came home.

The birds were singing, the sun shining

The wind carried your name

No blood spilled

We wore uniforms of black.

In the sharp midlight

All was at peace.

The ones you fought for were breathing

Yet around your grave, the dead were standing.
