The Clifton Centre Football Team had it`s first game of the new season with many new players making up the squad from Year 10 and Year 11. The game was again held at our home pitch of Manor Five`s in Kearsley.
Clifton played some brilliant football in the first half coming narrowly close to scoring with two shots hitting the post and cross bar! Unfortunately, Manchester Pru were playing their strongest team involving mainly year 11 students and were clearly determined to give some pay back for the 11-1 defeat they received before summer.
Unfortunately, the game ran away from the Clifton Centre when the referee had no alternative but to award four penalties due to Clifton players running into their own area. It was a harsh learning curve for the Clifton Centre team but they soon rallied back to score a beautiful halfway line screamer from one of the midfield maestros.
The difference between the 2 teams was very little but Manchester PRU had the added advantage of not having to rotate their goalkeeper and played their strongest team with few substitute rotations from the outset.
The final score was a flattering 7-1 to Manchester PRU but the game was a much closer affair and on reflection the opposition coach had said the game was taken away from the Clifton Centre through the penalty decisions.
All the students worked hard throughout the game and many of the students who had never represented a football team said they enjoyed the experience.
